For moons now, Momma E and I have danced in the shadows of uncertainty, dealing with insurance difficulties, all while my mother's vitality teeters on the edge.
It's been a whirlwind of appointments, consultations, scans, and hospital corridors—a labyrinth leading to a single juncture: the green light for my mother to commence her treatment with chemotherapy and radiation. Each step forward feels like scaling mountains, yet none quite as mentally challenging as this holdout with insurance.
Finally, after what feels like years, we received the news we've been desperately waiting for. The treatment plan laid out by the radiologist is both overwhelming and hopeful—a "chemo sandwich," they call it. For six weeks straight, my mom will undergo radiation therapy Monday through Friday, with chemotherapy administered at the beginning and end of this plan.
The goal is clear: this treatment is meant to cure, with an 80% success rate. But despite the promising odds, the journey ahead is daunting. We've already braved so much, and yet, we know that maybe the hardest part is yet to come.
With Fridays already accounted for, we're reaching out for support. If anyone in our community is available to lend time by providing transportation to and from radiation sessions, it would be deeply helpful. We understand the commitment this entails—six weeks of dedication, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 pm to around 4ish.
To all who've walked beside us on this journey, we offer our deepest gratitude.
